Wrapped up warm against the cold, there is something wonderful about the seaside in winter. Less the crowds, deserted beaches to wander and plunder. The crunch of pebbles under foot and skies shifting with clouds and sunlight overhead. We shared Sidmouth beach with a few dogs and their owners. It rained a bit, the sun shone a bit and the cold wind blew. Hot tea in a warm cafe tasted oh so good. Too cold to paddle but never too cold for ice cream. A pretty damn perfect day out.

Looks like you had loads of fun!! Mine have been asking for ice cream this week but too cold here!!
I can’t say no when it’s the seaside!
Beeeeeeeeeee-autiful photos – looks like you both had fun!
I love the beach in winter. And you took great photos.
Me too – the beach is winter is special.
Looks perfect, love the photos!
it was! thank you.
We love Sidmouth so can imagine your day & agree that it was probably a perfect day!
Sidmouth is our new discovery! we love it.
Those pictures are fabulous. Never too cold for ice cream? Are you serious? You are! What a wonderful day out xx
Clearly is you are 5 it is never too cold – I was more hot tea

thank you x
Gorgeous photos- hope you were wrapped up equally snuggly! I would have preferred a hot chocolate! x
with marshmallows?
I spent a weekend last July in Sidmouth and it was so perfect. We went to a wedding and I found a heart shaped stone on the beach on the morning of the wedding so I wire wrapped it as a gift. Such a lovely place.
that’s so sweet – thank you for sharing. what a lovely gift.
Gorgeous there isn’t it! Lovely photos. Sounds pretty much weather wise the same as is was for us the other week!
it is so unspoilt. really glad we’ve discovered it.
I love the beach whatever the weather (in fact I don’t really like it too hot)
Your photo’s are lovely
me too – thank you.
Looks like a great day
The ice-cream reminds me of the weekend. A little boy about 4 was walking along with an ice-cream and another family walking the other way with their children wanting ice-cream. So the Dad said to his ice-cream wanting children extra loud “Ice-cream isn’t for Winter time, it is for the Summer”.
The little boy with the ice-cream said to his Mum and Dad “That man said ice-cream isn’t for the Winter but he is wrong!”. We all laughed and agree with the little boy ice-cream is for anytime of the year
Exactly! I think the seaside is about treats and if the treat is a quid on a ice cream – that seems fine to me whatever the time of year.
gorgeous photos and I LOVE his hat!
That hat was his choice and we’ve had a tun of wear out of it – it is so cosy!
Gorgeous pics. I love the seaside in winter. We had a walk along the beach near my parents’ house on New Year’s Day and it was perfect. x
I love starting the year with a beach walk. x
Love, love, love Sidmouth, it’s an hour down the road from us and we spent time there last summer with our little girl and plan to go back lots this year, your photos look great, I can imagine you had a lovely day! X
it’s a bit further for us but totally worth it – fab spot.
Oh lovely – how fresh and bracing. I used to live by the sea as a student – in Morecambe! Lovely pictures!
never lived by the sea but maybe I will retire to the seaside.
Beautiful photos. I love the seaside in all weathers, but there’s something very special about cold wintery days on the beach. No ice cream, though!
Do you know the ee cummings poem “maggie and millie and molly and may”?
I don’t know that poem but I am going to see if I can find it – thank you.
Stunning photography, you’ve made me want to get out and on the beach again – hurry up spring
don’t wait for spring! it’s great now on a bright day – no crowds.
NEVER too cold for ice cream! I agree
Totally gorgeous pictures Gemma, it felt like I was there with you. I would have had an icecream too!
The other benefit of the cold was that the ice cream didn’t melt all over his clothes and arm! which is what happens in the summer ;0
Love your collages! Think the last one is my favourite! x
thank you! (it’s all done on pic monkey)
